Client Overview
The client is a regional credit union in the US Midwest serving individuals, families, and small businesses through branch and digital banking channels. Its services include deposit accounts, credit cards, consumer loans, mortgages, and small business financing. As a member-owned financial institution, it emphasizes personalized service, fair financial products, and strong community relationships.
As membership and digital engagement grew, the credit union faced increasing demand across its contact center and lending operations. The credit union needed an AI solution that could securely and compliantly streamline routine processes, improve response times, and support employees while maintaining the personalized experience its members value.
Project Summary: The client was struggling with rising call and chat volumes, lengthy loan processing, and time-consuming KYC checks while meeting NCUA, BSA/AML, CFPB, and GLBA requirements. We developed AI agents for credit unions that use retrieval to provide answers from approved policies and disclosures, while securely accessing member-specific data from the core banking system and CRM through authenticated APIs. With built-in human escalation, audit trails, and data security controls, the solution handles member queries 24/7, accelerates KYC and loan pre-qualification, and automates routine work while keeping sensitive decisions subject to established compliance controls and human review.
Project Challenges
The main challenge was handling growing pressure on the member service teams. Call and chat volumes kept increasing, while members often waited for answers about balances, card issues, loan status, and branch information. Staff spent much of their time responding to repetitive questions, leaving less time for complex member needs. The credit union needed an AI solution that could improve member support while letting staff continue providing personalized service.
Another challenge was improving lending and onboarding workflows. Loan applications depended on manual document collection, follow-ups, and pre-qualification checks that could take days. KYC and identity verification also required significant manual review, increasing processing time and operating costs. Introducing AI agents for KYC and lending workflows required careful integration with existing processes while keeping established credit and identity decisions under human and rule-based control.
The platform also needed to meet strict enterprise AI security and regulatory frameworks. Member data was spread across the core banking system, CRM, and loan origination platform, making secure integration difficult. We built an AI solution for credit unions that provides accurate answers from approved information, protects sensitive member data, maintains complete audit trails, and escalates uncertain or sensitive cases to staff. An AI governance framework, regulatory requirements, financial crime and risk monitoring, and human oversight therefore had to remain central to the solution.
Solutions and Impact
To reduce the pressure on member service, we built an AI support agent that answers questions 24/7 over chat and voice. It uses Claude on Amazon Bedrock and a retrieval layer built on the credit union’s own policies, product details, and disclosures. Because every answer comes from approved content, the agent cites its sources, avoids guessing, and escalates to a human representative with full context when a question falls outside its scope. Members now get instant answers at any hour, while staff handle only the cases that need a personal touch.
To speed up lending and onboarding, we developed AI agents for loan pre-qualification and KYC checks. The agents collect documents, extract data with Amazon Textract, run identity checks through a third-party verification provider, and pass applications to the credit union’s existing decisioning rules. The established rules engine and staff retain credit and identity decisions, while the agents handle document collection, follow-ups, and exception routing.
To keep everything secure and scalable, we worked as the client’s extended engineering team for six months. Our AI Agent Development approach included AI legacy system integration through a secure integration layer that connects the core banking system, CRM, and loan platform to a single AI orchestration layer, allowing new agents to be introduced without requiring major changes to the underlying systems. An admin dashboard lets non-technical teams update the knowledge base, review conversations, and adjust escalation rules with role-based permissions. The solution tracks contact center metrics such as resolution rate, handle time, and member satisfaction in one place.

The resulting platform gives the credit union a foundation for expanding AI across additional member and operational workflows. As operational needs evolve, it can add new workflows, member-facing channels, and specialized agents without requiring major changes to the underlying architecture.
Technologies and Tools Used
Results
Within six months, the AI agents were deployed to support credit union members and day-to-day operations. Members received faster answers to routine questions, while loan and KYC processes were streamlined. As a result, staff spent more time addressing complex member needs and less time on repetitive tasks.
Key Outcomes
- 65% of routine member queries resolved by the AI agent
- 35% reduction in average handle time
- Loan pre-qualification time reduced from 2–3 days to under 4 hours
- 28% increase in loan application completion
- 22% increase in funded loan volume
- 40% reduction in manual KYC reviews
- 18-point improvement in member satisfaction (CSAT)
- 30% reduction in contact center cost per interaction
- 100% response rate for after-hours inquiries
Words of Appreciation
“Working with the WPWeb Infotech team helped us turn AI into a practical solution for our members and staff. The team understood our security and compliance requirements, integrated with our systems, and delivered AI agents that improved daily workflows. Their technical expertise and collaborative approach made the entire process easier to manage.”
Future Scalability
The AI platform provides a flexible foundation for the credit union to expand its use of AI as the business grows. Future enhancements can extend agentic AI and autonomous workflows into areas such as collections, debt servicing, card disputes, proactive lending, and multilingual member support. Its modular design allows new AI agents, communication channels, and system integrations to be introduced without disrupting existing workflows.
As these capabilities expand, organizations can hire AI agent developers to design, integrate, and manage specialized agents around their operational needs. Ongoing model evaluation, compliance updates, and performance monitoring will help maintain reliable responses as usage grows. The architecture can also scale with higher interaction volumes, enabling the credit union to improve staff productivity while delivering more consistent member experiences.
