About The Project

Alpean has an infrastructure package for work, exercise, and rehabilitation. It operates in a unique space where wellness meets community. It is a one-shot answer for the gym, co-working hub, and professional development center. Basically, all things health and wellness.

Our team had a word with the client to understand the complete business flow. We helped to implement the client’s vision by providing an online platform. Here, users can book any health and wellness service and a co-working space. What started as a concept became a completely functional ecosystem. Apart from booking, you can manage memberships and operations.

The main issue was how to digitize a multifaceted business model. Making members book diverse services like fitness classes, therapy sessions, and co-working was  challenging. Managing credits, tracking access, and keeping everything in sync across languages and systems also required a solution.

That’s where we stepped in, consulted, and developed the whole program.

Credits System

Custom Credits System

Users can purchase a subscription package. This earns them a specified number of credits, which may be valid for a set time or forever. Once the user has these credits, they can use them for booking health and wellness services.

Adaptive Booking Layout

Adaptive Booking Layout

Developed an adaptive booking layout as per the client’s needs. This comes with tabbing and different day selection options for several types of booking services.

Booking Filter

New Booking Filter

Developed a custom booking filter that can work with many other booking services. Each booking service has different criteria and searches. So based on that, the admin can decide on filter options from the backend.

Google Calendar Sync

Google Calendar Sync

This added feature helps the client to update the booking schedule directly in Google Calendar. Another option is to book each service on the website. Any booking on the website will be automatically added to Google Calendar.

KISI Door Integration

KISI Door Integration

We have integrated the KISI door API. This gives access to the door and code for the user who booked or subscribed to the services. Once the subscription or booking ends, access will be revoked within a limited time.

Multilingual

Multilingual Support

The website is fully multilingual and comes with a custom option to manage translation for every word. Can easily manage translations for English and German content. We made the support module for French as well.

Major Project Challenges

To understand their business and processes, we needed to first know about them in-depth. To identify and deliver such complex solutions, we used various techniques and tools. This includes custom booking filters and the synchronization of bookings with Google Calendar for admins and members.

These were the main challenges that we faced during the project work:

  • Making a platform that could handle radically different service types was difficult. Each query had its own booking rules, pricing, and operational requirements. For example, a 90-minute therapy session is booked differently from a yoga class.
  • Before there were separate booking systems, calendars, and access control lists. This creates silos, and a change in one system doesn’t automatically update the others. This led to double bookings, confused customers, and frustrated staff.
  • Most WordPress plugins treat multilingual support as an afterthought. But Alpean needed all the language support. As the client resides in Switzerland, the requirement for English, French, and German was a must. We had to make such a model that could also support more languages in the future.
  • Integrating digital bookings with physical door locks (KISI) required building a bridge between two separate systems. Also, to keep everything in sync, like early arrivals, late cancellations, and access revocation, was a riddle we had to solve.

Solutions & Impact

To develop in the beloved health and wellness space was rewarding. With this mindset, we completed an admirable project ahead of schedule.

These were the major developments we came up with, and their impact on the business:

  • We developed a custom filter system with optimized queries for faster results, configurable from the backend.
  • We integrated Google Calendar with the booking module to manage schedules directly from Calendar and view booking details.
  • The next step was to customize the WooCommerce Subscriptions plugin to meet the client’s specifications.
  • This was the most important part of our development cycle. We created a custom Credit system module supported by WooCommerce Subscriptions.
  • We implemented the KISI Door API for automated door access codes based on bookings and in sync with times.
  • We used the qTranslate-X multi-language plugin and built custom plugins and themes compatible with it to support multilingual capability (German and English).
