About the Project
Allbirds is an international sustainable footwear brand popular for selling eco-friendly shoes made from merino wool and eucalyptus fiber. They came to us with a mission to design an online store that reflects their environmental responsibility and commitment to natural materials, while making it easy for customers to find the perfect pair.
We collaborated with Allbirds to modernize their Shopify experience. This means optimizing their store for mobile performance and improving the navigation across various categories of apparel lines. But more importantly, it is about showcasing their sustainability story on every product page and collection.
Using the flexibility of Shopify 2.0, we gave the Allbirds team complete editorial control over adaptable layouts for their growing apparel line, new product launches, and seasonal campaigns.

Project Challenges
Shopify modernization seems like an easy enough task, but it is much more than making a few tweaks here and there. It is about completely redesigning the eCommerce website without losing data and functionality, delivering enhanced performance and experience.
Now, despite being a digital store in a sustainable fashion niche, Allbirds has a comprehensive range of product categories. We had to ensure a cohesive and consistent experience across these lines while preserving the brand’s minimalist aesthetic.
Telling the company’s sustainability story to customers is the core necessity of the project. But it presents a challenge of creating a dedicated space to share complex material and sustainability data without cluttering the product page or slowing down the loading speed.
Another difficulty was building a robust filtering system that keeps navigation intuitive and easy for first-time visitors, even if the catalog keeps growing. Giving the marketing team editorial freedom while still maintaining the brand’s natural color palette across every section of the site required true discipline.
Since Allbirds is a global brand, we also had to provide a flawless cart and checkout experience to the whole customer base coming from diverse regions and using different currencies.
Solutions & Impact
Our expert Shopify developers collaborated and worked with the client as their extended team. We clearly defined every single project requirement and fulfilled it through effective Shopify 2.0 execution and a little customization.
We designed a lightweight Material Card component for product pages that provides a carbon score and facts about key materials.
Our team also created a custom predictive filter sidebar that updates the results in real-time without requiring full page reloads. This keeps the user experience fast and fluid.
To give the marketing team total editorial freedom, we built a token library in the theme settings, allowing them to update the typography, brand colors, and spacing globally within minutes.
Another feature we delivered to Allbirds was geo-aware currency switching and region-specific content blocks to help them serve their local as well as global customers effortlessly.
